Protect the reliability and integrity of data behind Guardian products as usage, records, and reporting needs grow. You will combine schema and SQL development with performance tuning, access control, migration discipline, backup and recovery, monitoring, and developer enablement.
What you will do
- Design normalized schemas, constraints, indexes, functions, and query patterns for correctness and maintainability.
- Profile slow workloads and resolve query, plan, lock, connection, storage, and table-growth bottlenecks.
- Plan and execute reviewed migrations, data backfills, retention changes, and low-downtime releases.
- Own automated backups, restore testing, recovery objectives, replication, capacity planning, and disaster runbooks.
- Implement least-privilege access, row-level controls, encryption practices, audit logging, and periodic access review.
- Create monitoring and documentation while helping application developers use the database safely and efficiently.
What we are looking for
- At least four years of production database development or administration experience.
- Advanced SQL, relational modeling, indexing, execution-plan analysis, transactions, locks, and data-integrity skills.
- Hands-on responsibility for backup, restore, migration, monitoring, security, and production incident response.
- Experience collaborating with backend engineers on query design and safe schema evolution.
- Clear written communication for change plans, risk assessment, incident notes, and recovery procedures.
Helpful, but not required
- Deep PostgreSQL experience, including Supabase, row-level security, functions, and migration tooling
- Managed cloud databases, connection pooling, replication, zero-downtime changes, and infrastructure monitoring
- Experience securing applicant, healthcare-related, financial, or other confidential records
What you can expect
- Meaningful influence over Guardian's data architecture and reliability standards
- Remote work with direct collaboration across application and platform engineering
- Ownership of preventive engineering, recovery readiness, and long-term data quality
